The Akwatia Police Command has arrested a man identified as Coffie Agyemang, a resident of Kwamang, for allegedly attempting to sell his three-year-old son for money.
According to the information available to Nyansapo Media, the suspect had earlier confided in a friend about his intention to sell the child, citing severe financial hardship as the reason for his decision.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police, prompting an intelligence-led operation.
Police sources indicate that officers posed as prospective buyers and engaged the suspect in discussions.
During the interaction, an agreement was allegedly reached for the sale of the child at a cost of one million Ghana cedis (GHS1,000,000).
The suspect reportedly brought the child to a prearranged location to finalize the transaction, where he was arrested by the police.
Further information from sources suggests that the suspect allegedly intended for the child to be killed, after which certain body parts would be taken for ritual purposes.
The remaining body was allegedly to be returned to him to enable him claim that the child had been killed.
Efforts to obtain an official comment from the Akwatia Police Command were unsuccessful.
However, police officials confirmed that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
