Prez Mahama Slams Funding Shortfall as Ofankor-Nsawam Road Project Stalls

During an inspection of the Ofankor-Nsawam Road Project, President John Dramani Mahama voiced strong frustration over the stalled progress of the long-delayed infrastructure development.

President Mahama revealed that the initial loan secured for the project has been completely exhausted, yet the road remains far from completion.

He criticized what he described as poor financial planning and oversight, noting that an additional GHC 78 million now needs to be sourced from the Bank of Ghana to keep the project alive.

“This is unacceptable. How do you run out of funds with the road still in this state?”

Mr. Mahama questioned, highlighting the urgent need for accountability and transparency in the management of public infrastructure funds.

The Ofankor-Nsawam stretch is a critical part of Ghana’s road network, often plagued by traffic congestion and poor conditions.

The delay in its completion has drawn concern from commuters and residents who rely heavily on the route for daily travel.

The project was initially intended to ease traffic and support economic activity by improving access between Accra and surrounding areas.

Mr. Mahama’s remarks underscore growing public frustration with repeated delays and cost overruns in major road projects across the country.
