Mr. Samuel Awuku, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North Constituency in the Eastern Region, has criticized President John Dramani Mahama for misleading Ghanaians regarding sole sourcing in government procurement.
Mr. Awuku’s comments follow Mahama’s first State of the Nation Address (SONA) 2025, where the President assured the Ghanaians that his government would minimize sole-source procurement in the road sector to promote competitive bidding and improve transparency.
However, he revealed that a few weeks after Mahama’s speech, on March 17, 2025, the government engaged in sole-sourcing procurement at the Mineral Income Investment Fund (MIIF).
The legislator argued that this move undermined Mahama’s commitment to transparency and raised doubts about his trustworthiness.
Mr. Awuku made these comments at the Presbyterian College of Education in Akropong on Saturday, March 22, 2025, during the induction of newly elected Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) executive members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He warned that Ghanaians would soon regret voting for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 election if Mahama’s leadership continued.
“We are in opposition, but a mighty minority and we will work hard to regroup and recapture power come 2028,” Awuku declared.
He emphasized that the NPP was committed to rebuilding and preparing for the next election, despite challenges in 2024.
Mr. Awuku also encouraged the new TESCON executives to actively share the NPP’s achievements with their peers on campus, helping to strengthen the party’s position ahead of the 2028 election.
During the event, Lawyer Berima Awuah Sarpong Asiedu-Larbi, the former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akuapem North Municipal Assembly, expressed disappointment with some youth who, despite benefiting from NPP job creation initiatives, did not vote in the 2024 election.
He criticized the youth for demanding money before voting, contributing to the NPP’s loss. Asiedu-Larbi urged them not to repeat the same mistake in 2028.
The Eastern Regional Youth Organizer of the NPP, Adamu Musah Raha, also addressed the gathering, condemning any unlawful intimidation by members of the opposition.
Mr. Raha specifically referenced incidents where former NPP appointees were subjected to raids by opposition forces.
He vowed that the NPP would not tolerate such actions, warning that the party would resist any form of political harassment.
“If they think they have done something wrong, they should use the proper channels to invite and investigate them rather than using the Rambo-style approach to raid their homes,” he stated.
