Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah, has described the Ayawaso East parliamentary seat as a crucial test for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), while maintaining that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) still stands a strong chance of winning the constituency.
Speaking to journalists during the final funeral rites of the late Ayawaso East Member of Parliament, Mahama Toure Naser, Mr. Asiamah noted that although the constituency has traditionally leaned towards the NDC, recent political developments present an opportunity for the NPP to make significant inroads.
According to him, the outcome of the upcoming by-election will serve as a key indicator of the NDC’s electoral strength in urban constituencies, particularly within the Greater Accra Region.
His comments follow an announcement by the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, who confirmed that the party will contest the Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election.
Mr. Asiamah cautioned against underestimating the NPP, emphasizing that effective campaigning and strong voter engagement could potentially swing the seat in the party’s favour.
