Police Nab Eight Suspected Land Guards in Accra After Distress Call, Recover Firearms

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested eight individuals suspected to be land guards following an operation that led to the discovery of illegally possessed firearms.

According to a statement issued by the police on Sunday, the arrests were made after a distress call was received on January 10, 2026, at approximately 12:50 p.m. The call reported the presence of armed individuals believed to be engaging in land guard activities.

Police officers swiftly responded to the alert and proceeded to the location, where they successfully apprehended the eight suspects. During the operation, firearms suspected to have been unlawfully acquired were retrieved from the suspects.

The police noted that investigations into the incident are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the suspects’ activities and to identify any accomplices. The suspects are expected to be arraigned before court to face charges in accordance with the law.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has reiterated its firm commitment to clamping down on land guard operations and the illegal possession of firearms, emphasizing that such activities pose a serious threat to public safety and order.
