The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold its National Executive elections on October 3, 2026, with nominations set to open from August 17 to August 22, the party’s National Elections Committee has announced.
Briefing the press, Chairman of the NPP Election Committee, Hon. Frederick Opare-Ansah, said pursuant to Article 10 of the Party Constitution and other relevant provisions, the following rules and regulations shall govern the elections.
The Committee announced an updated calendar as follows:
– Opening and closing of nominations: August 17 – 22, 2026
– Filing of nominations: August 23 – 27, 2026
– Vetting: August 31 – September 3, 2026
– Publication of vetting results: September 5, 2026
– Appeals: September 6 – 7, 2026
– NEC/NC meeting: September 10, 2026
– Notice of Poll: September 14, 2026
– Elections: October 3, 2026
Election Committee and Vetting Committee
Mr. Opare-Ansah said the National Executive elections shall be conducted by the National Elections Committee composed of:
Hon. Salam Ama Mpianimaa Damata, Member; Hon. Abena Osei Asare, Vice Chair; Madam Oboshie Sai Coffie, Member; Mr. Frank Davies, Esq., Member; Hon. Anthony Karbo, Member; Mr. Eric Ntori, Member; Ashanti Regional Chairman; Mr. Evans Nimako, Member/Secretary.
The Vetting Committee is chaired by Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah, with members Hon. Papa Owusu-Ankomah, Hon. Salifu Saeed, Amb. Dr. Barffour Agyei-Bawuah, Hon. Elizabeth Ohene, Hon. Osei Prempeh, Hon. Joyce Opoku Boateng, Arnold Boateng, and Evans Nimako as Secretary.
The National Vetting Committee is responsible for vetting all aspirants and shall recommend disqualification of any aspirant who does not meet eligibility requirements.
A member of the National Elections Committee shall not be eligible to contest. If any member intends to run, the Committee shall appoint a replacement.
Eligibility
A person shall not be eligible to contest unless they:
– Are a registered party member for at least two years and active;
– Have good character;
– Are in good standing, having paid dues at least in the past two years;
– Have paid prescribed fees;
– Are deemed qualified by the National Vetting Committee;
– For National Youth Organizer, must not be older than 40 years;
– Have nomination forms endorsed by at least one member in good standing from each of the 16 regions.
An aspirant must demonstrate they meet all criteria. Aggrieved aspirants may file a written petition to the Appeals Committee, which shall decide within 48 hours. Further appeal lies to the National Executive Committee, whose decision is final.
Nomination fees
Nomination forms are available from the National Elections Committee at the National Secretariat at Asylum Down at the following costs:
– National Chairman – GH¢50,000
– Vice Chairpersons – GH¢30,000
– General Secretary – GH¢25,000
– All other positions – GH¢10,000
– Special Wings – GH¢8,000 (Nasara, Women, Youth)
Payment can be made in cash or cash cheque at the National Headquarters, with an official receipt required to obtain the form. Forms can also be downloaded from the party’s website, but payment and receipt remain mandatory before submission.
Positions and electoral college
Positions to be contested include National Chairperson, Vice Chairpersons, General Secretary, National Treasurer, National Organiser, National Women Organizer, National Youth Organizer, National Nasara Organizer and National Communication Director.
According to Article 10, persons eligible to vote include all members of the National Council, National Executive Committee, Regional and Constituency Executive Committees, External Branch Executives, Council of Elders, National TESCON Coordinator, TESCON Presidents from each recognized tertiary institution, 30 National Patrons, Founding Members who signed registration documents at the Electoral Commission, all NPP Members of Parliament, and officials of special organs.
For National Women Organizer, every female delegate including TESCON Women Commissioners is eligible. For National Youth Organizer, every youth delegate including TESCON Presidents can vote. The Nasara Organizer will be elected by National, former National, Regional, Constituency and External Branch Nasara Coordinators and deputies, plus TESCON Nasara Coordinators.
A quorum of at least one-third of delegates is required to convene the National Delegates Conference.
The Notice of Poll will be posted at least one week before elections. The Electoral Commission will conduct the elections, supervised by the National Elections Committee, under the Political Parties Act 2000 (Act 574).
