Parliament cautions against sharing distressing video and speculating about Madina MP’s condition

Parliament of Ghana has confirmed that the Member of Parliament for Madina, Hon. Dr. Francis-Xavier Sosu, is in a stable condition after taking ill while speaking at an event at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

In a press statement issued by the Director of Media Relations, David Sebastian Damoah, Parliament said it had noted with concern the circulation of a video on social media showing the MP falling ill during his presentation today.

“The Honourable Member received immediate assistance at the event and was transferred to a medical facility, where he is receiving medical attention,” the statement said.

“Parliament is pleased to confirm that Hon. Sosu is in stable condition and is under the care of his medical team.”

Parliament thanked the management and staff of GIMPA, the medical team and all who responded swiftly, and expressed appreciation for the outpouring of prayers and goodwill messages from the public.

It has, however, appealed to Ghanaians and the media to exercise restraint.

“Parliament respectfully urges the public and the media to: 1. Desist from sharing the video, out of respect for the Honourable Member and his family; 2. Refrain from speculation on the cause of the incident or his condition; and 3. Respect the privacy of the family during this period.”

The statement added that further updates on his condition will be communicated through the official channels of Parliament as appropriate.
