Madina MP Pledges GH¢200,000 to Support WASS Boys’ Dormitory, Appeals to President Mahama for Completion of Abandoned STEM Project

The Member of Parliament for Madina, Hon. Dr. Francis Xavier Sosu, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving educational infrastructure in the constituency following a monitoring visit to West African Secondary School (WASS).

During the visit, Dr. Sosu highlighted the urgent need for boarding facilities at the school, noting that despite strong demand from students and parents, the institution currently lacks adequate accommodation.

According to him, efforts are already underway to address part of the challenge.

The school management, in collaboration with old students, the Church of Pentecost, and the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), has initiated the construction of a boys’ dormitory. However, the project remains incomplete.

“I have come to monitor the progress of the project, and I have pledged to support its completion,” Dr. Sosu stated.

“I have asked them to assess the cost of roofing, and I am committed to funding it through the MP’s Common Fund so that we can provide a conducive boarding facility for the boys.”

He indicated that the roofing component is estimated to cost approximately GH¢200,000, a figure he is prepared to cover to ensure the project is completed.

Beyond the dormitory project, the MP also expressed concern about an abandoned Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) facility within the school.

He described the stalled project as a significant loss to the people of Madina, emphasizing its potential to transform education in the area.

Dr. Sosu used the opportunity to appeal to President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Education, and the GETFund Administrator to prioritize the completion of the facility.

“This is a major project that can greatly benefit the people of Madina if completed. I want to use this platform to appeal to the government to take urgent action,” he said.

He further noted that the project was initiated during the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration but has since been left unattended following the change in government.

The MP expressed confidence that the current administration, led by President Mahama, would not abandon the project.

He stressed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC), while in opposition, consistently criticized the abandonment of public projects and remains committed to completing ongoing developments.

Dr. Sosu assured constituents that his appeal would not end with words, pledging to actively follow up with the relevant authorities to ensure the STEM project is completed.

“I am confident that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama will take the necessary steps to ensure this project is finished for the benefit of the good people of Madina,” he added.
