Suspect Arrested with 40 Parcels of Suspected Narcotics on Accra–Somanya Highway

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect, identified as Christopher Partey, for allegedly possessing a substantial quantity of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs.

The arrest occurred on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, during a routine patrol conducted by the National Highway Patrol Unit along the Accra–Somanya corridor.

The officers, stationed near the Ayikuma township, intercepted a Ford Transit bus with registration number AS 524-16 as part of standard operational checks.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered 40 tightly wrapped parcels concealed in a fertilizer sack located in the bus’s boot.

Preliminary investigations on the scene revealed that Partey, who was traveling as a passenger, claimed ownership of the concealed items.

The suspected narcotic substances have since been transferred to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit at the Police Headquarters in Accra for detailed forensic examination and further investigation.

Christopher Partey remains in police custody and is expected to be formally charged and arraigned before the court following the conclusion of investigative procedures.

The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to clamping down on drug trafficking and ensuring public safety through regular highway patrols and intelligence-led operations.
