Government Pays Tribute to Fallen Ministers and Officials in Solemn Wreath-Laying Ceremony

The Government of Ghana has held a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Jubilee House to honour the memory of eight distinguished citizens, including two cabinet ministers, who tragically lost their lives in a recent national disaster.

The moving event brought together senior government officials, members of the Armed Forces, and close relatives of the deceased in a moment of deep national mourning and reflection. The nation continues to grapple with the painful loss, which has cast a shadow over the government and stirred widespread sorrow.

The deceased include:

  • Hon. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence

  • Hon. Dr. Mohammed Murtala, Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology

  • Alhaji Muniru Mohammed

  • Dr. Samuel Sarpong

  • Mr. Samuel Aboagye

  • Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala

  • Flying Officer Twum Ampadu

  • Flight Sergeant Ernest Addo

The Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, who led a government delegation to the family homes of the two fallen ministers, described the incident as a “devastating loss of brilliant minds and national assets.” He added that their untimely deaths, which occurred in the line of duty, have robbed the nation of leaders committed to service and transformation.

The wreath-laying ceremony was attended by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Chief of Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Party Chairman, and other top officials who paid their final respects.

The atmosphere was heavy with emotion as the nation stood still to honour its fallen heroes. However, the absence of the Minority Caucus in Parliament was notable, though former Finance Minister Hon. Mohammed Amin Adam was seen at the residence of the late Hon. Murtala, where he offered prayers on behalf of the bereaved.
