The Acting Director of Pantang Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Yenusom Maalug, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving cleanliness and aesthetics at the facility, as part of a broader plan to enhance healthcare delivery and staff well-being.
Speaking to the press during the exercise, Dr. Maalug said the hospital has begun a large-scale clean-up and beautification exercise, which forms part of activities to commemorate its 50th anniversary.
The year-long celebration is being observed under the theme: “Honouring Our Legacy, Shaping Our Future.”
“One of our main priorities is to ensure the hospital environment is clean, green, and safe — not only for patients but also for staff and the surrounding community.
Cleanliness is essential in a health facility, and we are aligning this effort with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly Goal 3, which promotes good health and well-being,” Dr. Maalug said.
According to him, the clean-up exercise has received active participation from hospital staff, students, and local residents — a show of community spirit that he says bodes well for the hospital’s future.
Dr. Maalug also made a heartfelt appeal to President John Mahama, calling on him and other stakeholders to support the redesign and construction of a modern psychiatric facility that can meet international standards and serve the country for decades to come.
“We’ve made visible progress — planted trees, maintained our lawns, and improved the greenery across the hospital.
But a structural upgrade is urgently needed if we’re to meet the growing demand for quality mental healthcare,” he added.
Chairman of the Unit Committee in the Pantang Electoral Area, Mr. Prosper, commended the hospital’s efforts and emphasized the wider impact of the initiative on public health in the community.
“This clean-up is not just about appearance. It will go a long way to reduce the spread of disease and improve community hygiene,” he noted.
Meanwhile, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Ms. Adwoa Asamoah, is calling on corporate Ghana and philanthropic organizations to support their cause.
“We need corporate entities to partner with us to give the hospital a facelift. That support will enable us to provide even better care — not just for Pantang, but for Ghanaians across the country,” she said.
