Dispute over gari has incited a fisherman to bite off and swallow another’s lip at Apesika in the Afram Plains North District of the Bono Region.
The suspect, Akli is said to have provided, Ibrana a half cup of gari in exchange for a fish intended for Akli’s sister.
Two weeks later, when Ibrana had failed to provide the fish citing ill health, Akli and his accomplices, Torgbe, Akli’s mother and his sister allegedly attacked the victim.
The confrontation is said to have escalated into a fierce brawl in which Ibrana was knocked down.
During the fight, Akli reportedly seized the victim’s mouth, bit off a portion of his lip and swallowed it.
When asked about the severed tissue, the suspect is reported to have replied “I have chewed and swallowed it”.
Akli and Torgbe has since been arrested to assist with investigation while they pursue Akli’s sister who is on the run.
