The newly elected Deputy Youth Organizer of the Madina Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Wisdom Akorlor, popularly known as Seth Terkper, has pledged to build a formidable welfare system for the youth of the party in the constituency and mobilize them to achieve their dreams.
Mr. Akorlor made the pledge shortly after his election in the constituency executive elections held as part of the NDC’s nationwide reorganization exercise. The elections, which have seen a mix of new faces and experienced hands, are aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots base ahead of the 2028 general elections.
According to the Deputy Youth Organizer-elect, the youth remain the heartbeat of the NDC in Madina – one of the most strategic and populous constituencies in the Greater Accra Region – yet many young members continue to face challenges ranging from unemployment, lack of skills opportunities, to weak social support systems.
A Welfare-Driven Youth Agenda
Mr. Akorlor said his leadership will focus on three key pillars: welfare, mobilization and empowerment.
“My vision is clear – to build a formidable welfare system for the Madina NDC youth and mobilize them to support their dreams and aspirations,” he said.
He explained that under his watch, the Youth Wing will establish a database of young people in the constituency to properly identify their needs, skills and interests, and create targeted interventions including:
– A youth welfare fund to support members in times of need, including health emergencies, education and bereavement
– Skills training and entrepreneurship support in partnership with local businesses and national programmes such as the Adwumawura Programme
– Job facilitation and information sharing on opportunities
– Regular youth engagement forums and mentorship sessions with party elders and professionals
He stressed that an empowered youth front is critical not only to winning elections but to sustaining the party’s presence at the branch level.
Appreciation To Delegates
Mr. Akorlor thanked delegates for the confidence reposed in him and assured them of his commitment to serve with dedication, humility and hard work.
“I am deeply grateful to every delegate who believed in my vision. This victory is not for me alone but for the entire youth of Madina. I pledge to work with everyone – including those who contested – because we have one common goal: to make the NDC stronger and more attractive to young people,” he noted.
He also pledged to work closely with the Constituency Youth Organizer, the Constituency Chairman and the entire constituency executive, as well as the Greater Accra Regional Youth Wing, to implement programmes that will address the needs of the youth.
Madina: A Key Battleground
Madina Constituency, which falls under the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipality, is regarded as a swing constituency in Greater Accra. With a youthful population, vibrant student communities around the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), Wisconsin University and other institutions, and a large informal sector, the youth vote is decisive in the area.
Political analysts say a well-organized youth wing with a clear welfare and mobilization strategy could prove crucial in maintaining party loyalty, increasing volunteerism and driving voter turnout in 2028.
Party faithful in Madina have welcomed Mr. Akorlor’s message, describing his pledge as timely and youth-centered, and have called on all stakeholders to rally behind the new executives to deliver victory for the NDC.
The new executives are expected to be sworn in in the coming days to officially commence their four-year mandate.
