Madina MP Warns Contractor of Termination Over Delays and Shoddy Work on Ayi Mensah–Danfa–Amrahia Road Project

Madina MP Dr. Francis-Xavier Sosu has threatened to push for the termination of the contract for the Ayi Mensah–Danfa–Amrahia Road if work does not immediately commence on the Ayi Mensah–Otinibi stretch, describing the slow pace of construction as “unacceptable” and a betrayal of the expectations of residents.

Speaking after an inspection tour of the project during a community monitoring exercise after the nationwide cleanup exercise as directed by President John Dramani Mahama, Dr. Sosu expressed frustration over what he described as the contractor’s failure to make meaningful progress on the section of the road serving the densely populated communities within the Madina Constituency.

According to the legislator, the road project is of great personal and public significance, recalling that while in opposition, he led demonstrations demanding its reconstruction.

“I led demonstrations on this road from this junction to Ayi Mensah. It became a very controversial matter. I was pursued by the then government; attempts were made to arrest me, and I even stood trial before the case was eventually struck out. That is why this road is extremely important to me and, more importantly, to the people who use it every day,” he said.

Dr. Sosu noted that after the NDC assumed office, he lobbied for the project, which was among the first road contracts awarded, alongside the Pantang Road. He said the same contractor was awarded the Pantang Road, the Owusu-Ansah Road and the Ayi Mensah–Danfa–Amrahia Road.

However, following what he described as a surprise inspection several months after the award of the contract, he said little or no work had been carried out between Ayi Mensah and Otinibi.

“My understanding is that there has been some clearing and grading, but that is not what the contract requires. The contract is to construct the road from Ayi Mensah through Otinibi and continue to Amrahia. That is what the people are expecting,” he stated.

The MP criticised the contractor for allegedly concentrating work on the Otinibi–Amrahia section while leaving out the Ayi Mensah–Otinibi stretch, which serves communities including Adoteiman and Kweiman.

“If the contractor will not begin construction from Ayi Mensah to Otinibi, then I will do everything within my power to ensure the Roads Minister withdraws the contract. We cannot continue to tolerate this level of delay,” he warned.

Dr. Sosu said residents have grown increasingly frustrated by the lack of visible progress despite the project being awarded.

“The people keep asking, ‘Where is the road?’ The government has awarded the contract, but what we are seeing is deeply disappointing. We cannot accept this situation,” he said.

The MP also alleged that the contractor’s performance raised concerns about the capacity to execute the project, drawing comparisons with previous road contracts that, according to him, remained uncompleted despite being awarded.

He vowed to pursue every available parliamentary and administrative avenue, including filing questions in Parliament, to ensure the project is executed according to schedule.

“I will do whatever is necessary to ensure this contractor delivers on the contract or loses it. The people deserve better,” he stressed.

Dr. Sosu further argued that construction should prioritise the heavily populated Ayi Mensah corridor, where flooding remains a persistent problem, and residents urgently require proper drainage infrastructure.

“You have left the valley communities where people suffer from flooding and focused on the hilly areas. That is not acceptable. The people need the drains and the road, and they need them now,” he said.

The contractor has yet to publicly respond to the concerns raised by the Madina MP.

If you’re publishing this for a news website, adding the contractor’s response or noting that attempts to reach the contractor were unsuccessful would further strengthen the story’s balance.
