Jealous Rage Turns Violent: Woman Arrested for Arson and Stabbing Ex-Boyfriend in Sowutuom

The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested 29-year-old Mr. Augustina Adoma in connection with a violent domestic incident involving arson and a near-fatal stabbing in Sowutuom, a suburb of Accra.

According to a Police press release, the suspect, currently unemployed, launched a series of retaliatory actions against her ex-boyfriend, Mr. Emmanuel Otabil, a 30-year-old commercial driver, after unexpectedly finding him with another woman.

The incident unfolded on the morning of Thursday, June 26, 2025, when Ms. Adoma allegedly visited Mr. Otabil’s residence in Racecourse, Sowutuom, without prior notice.

Upon discovering him with a female companion, she is said to have doused both with a bucket of water in a fit of rage, seized his Samsung mobile phone, and left the scene.

Later that afternoon, while Mr. Otabil was away, Adoma reportedly returned to his kiosk using a duplicate key.

She then allegedly set fire to several of his personal belongings, including a mattress, carpet, and bedsheets—causing significant damage to his makeshift residence.

The situation escalated in the evening when Mr. Otabil confronted Ms. Adoma to retrieve his phone and question her about the fire.

During the heated exchange, Ms. Adoma allegedly grabbed a knife from a nearby orange vendor and stabbed him in the chest.

Mr. Otabil was rushed to the Racecourse Hospital and later transferred to the University of Ghana Medical Centre after undergoing emergency care at two other facilities.

He is currently recovering after surgery and said to be in stable condition.

Following the incident, police recovered the stolen phone and arrested Ms. Adoma at the Tesano Police Station, where she had gone to submit a medical report related to a separate assault complaint she had filed against Mr. Otabil—highlighting a complicated and potentially volatile relationship history between the two.
