A breakthrough has been made in the investigation into the deadly highway robbery that claimed the life of a Berekum Chelsea FC player, as police have arrested two key suspects believed to be part of a notorious armed robbery gang operating in parts of the Ashanti Region.
A coordinated operation by a joint team of security personnel has led to the arrest of two suspects in connection with the robbery attack on the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso (KDS) road in the Nyinahin District on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
The incident tragically resulted in the death of Dominic Frimpong, a player for Berekum Chelsea Football Club, sending shockwaves through the football community and the nation at large.
The operation, spearheaded by officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate Headquarters, the Anti-Robbery Unit, CID Headquarters, as well as the Ashanti South and Ashanti Regional Police Commands, followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police to intensify efforts to track down those responsible.

On April 15, 2026, an intelligence-led raid at Atimatim in Kumasi led to the arrest of Mohammed Ahmed, also known as “I Can Do,” identified as the leader of the gang, along with his accomplice, Bawa Gideon.
The suspects reportedly attempted to escape arrest and opened fire on the police, but were overpowered and apprehended.
A search conducted during the operation led to the retrieval of several items believed to have been used in criminal activities.
These included a pistol loaded with two rounds of .32 ammunition, eleven BB cartridges, a pepper spray device, a pair of desert boots, multiple mobile phones, and a black pullover.
During interrogation, Mohammed Ahmed reportedly confessed to participating in multiple robbery operations, including incidents at Nkawie and Fufuso, as well as the attack involving the Berekum Chelsea team.
He also named three alleged accomplices—identified only as Dauda, Huefe, and A.T.—who are currently at large.
Ahmed is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital following injuries sustained during the arrest, while Bawa Gideon remains in custody and is assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries.

Police have since declared the three remaining suspects wanted and are urging members of the public to provide any information that could lead to their arrest.
The Police Command has commended the professionalism and dedication of the officers involved in the operation, noting that their swift response and persistence were instrumental in achieving this breakthrough.
Authorities also expressed gratitude to community members whose cooperation aided the investigation.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects. Meanwhile, the two arrested individuals are expected to be arraigned before the court to face justice in accordance with the law.
