The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery incident that led to the death of a miner at Asonkore SSNIT Flats Down, a suburb of Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
The suspect, identified as Rahman Adams, popularly known as “Wale,” was arrested on January 18, 2026, at Pomposofollowing an intelligence-led police operation. His arrest is linked to a violent residential robbery that occurred on December 12, 2025.
According to police, the incident occurred when armed assailants broke into a residence at Asonkore in the late hours of the night. Officers who responded to a distress call discovered the lifeless body of a 42-year-old miner inside the house.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the attackers gained entry by cutting through a burglar-proof window. During the attack, they allegedly made away with cash amounting to GH¢2,600, a laptop computer, and a vehicle ignition key. The deceased was reportedly assaulted during the robbery, sustaining injuries that led to his death.
Police further indicated that two other suspects—one identified only as A.T. and another believed to be a Nigerian national—are currently on the run and are suspected to have played significant roles in the crime.
Several items believed to have been used in the attack, including hammers, machetes, and metal cutters, were retrieved from the crime scene. The body of the deceased was deposited at the Obuasi Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Rahman Adams is currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations. The police say efforts are underway to track down and arrest the remaining suspects to ensure they are brought to justice.
