Man Loses GH₵70,000 in Alleged Overseas Job Scam Involving Friend’s Boyfriend

A man has reportedly lost a total of GH₵70,000 after allegedly being defrauded by a self-styled travel agent introduced to him through a personal connection.

The suspect, identified as Aaron Baro, was introduced to the victim, Maxwell Ohemeng, by Baro’s girlfriend, who is a friend of Ohemeng. Baro reportedly presented himself as a travel and recruitment agent capable of securing overseas employment opportunities.

According to Maxwell Ohemeng, Baro promised him jobs in Poland, Belarus, and Spain, assuring him that all necessary arrangements—including travel and documentation—would be handled once payments were made. Trusting these assurances, Maxwell says he made a series of payments to Baro over time: GH₵15,000, GH₵23,800, and GH₵30,000, bringing the total amount paid to GH₵70,000.

However, none of the promised travel or job opportunities materialized. Maxwell says it was only after repeated delays and unmet assurances that he began to suspect he had been duped.

When he demanded a refund, Baro allegedly promised to repay the full amount by January 15, 2026. That deadline has since passed, and Maxwell claims Baro stopped responding to calls and messages, eventually switching off his mobile phone entirely. All efforts to reach him since then have reportedly failed.

The case highlights growing concerns over fraudulent travel and recruitment schemes, particularly those operating through personal networks and informal referrals.

Maxwell is now seeking redress and has urged the public to exercise caution when dealing with individuals who promise overseas jobs without verifiable credentials or documentation.
