The Member of Parliament for the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency, Issah Salifu Taylor, has assured residents that communities currently without electricity will be connected to the national grid by next year following ongoing engagements with the Ministry of Energy.
Speaking to journalists, the MP expressed concern that several communities within the constituency still lack access to electricity despite the presence of major mining operations in the area.
According to him, it is unacceptable that villages located in one of Ghana’s key mining hubs continue to live without reliable power.
Mr. Taylor noted that discussions with the Energy Ministry are already underway to prioritize the electrification of these communities.
He said the initiative forms part of broader government efforts to expand electricity access and improve living conditions in underserved areas.
The MP also attributed the delay in completing the electrification projects to what he described as a lack of priority under the previous administration of the New Patriotic Party government.
However, he expressed confidence that the current administration led by the National Democratic Congress is committed to addressing the situation.
“For a constituency that contributes significantly to the country’s mining sector, it is only fair that our communities enjoy basic infrastructure such as electricity,” he emphasized.
With government efforts aimed at extending electricity to all parts of the country, the MP remains optimistic that the longstanding power challenges in Tarkwa-Nsuaem will soon become a thing of the past.
