Police Bodyguard Foils Attempted Robbery at Court of Appeal Judge’s Residence in Kumasi

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has confirmed that a robbery attempt at the residence of a Court of Appeal Judge in Kumasi was successfully foiled due to the alertness and swift response of a police bodyguard on duty.

According to preliminary investigations, the incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on March 3, 2026.

Two suspects, identified as 23-year-old Patrick Alor and 21-year-old Akwasi Gyamfi, allegedly scaled the fence wall of the judge’s residence while armed with cutlasses and a pair of scissors.

The suspects reportedly attempted to forcibly open the judge’s private vehicle but were spotted by the police bodyguard stationed at the premises.

In an effort to effect their arrest, the officer confronted the suspects. During the encounter, the two men allegedly attempted to disarm him.

Acting in self-defence and in line with police operational procedures, the bodyguard discharged his firearm, shooting the suspects in the legs.

The injured men were immediately transported to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, where they are currently receiving treatment under police guard.

Authorities say they are responding to treatment.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has commended the vigilance, professionalism, and bravery of the officer, noting that his swift intervention prevented what could have escalated into a serious security incident.

Police have assured the public of their continued commitment to protecting members of the judiciary and the general public.
