Vice President and Chairman of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee of Parliament, Honourable James Enu, has revealed that his Committee is poised to work on the much-talked-about Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, which is currently referred to after being introduced and read for the first time in Parliament.
The Bill, which will be seeking to safeguard Ghana’s cultural values, has been a subject of interest among Ghanaians, with the International community watching closely with keen interest.
The bill, which had to be re-laid due to lack of presidential assets by Former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is scheduled for consideration by the Committee next week, the Member of Parliament for Tema West Constituency, doubling as the Vice Chairman, said.
According to Lawyer James Enu, who revealed this in an Eyewitness Interview on Citi FM, said preparations have been made to thoroughly examine the bill clause by clause and make necessary adjustments before reporting back to the House.
The Committee, he noted, is expected to submit its report, and if adopted, the bill will proceed to the second reading.
The bill’s passage is being closely watched, with many stakeholders urging swift action.
However, the process is expected to be thorough, with the Committee ensuring that all concerns are addressed.
Given that the bill has undergone similar processes before, it is anticipated that the Committee’s deliberations will be expedited.
Chairman of the Committee, Honorable Shaibu Mahama, is expected to lead the deliberations, with support from the Vice Chairman.
The Committee’s report will be crucial in shaping the bill’s final form and determining its fate.
The bill’s progress has sparked interest among Ghanaians, with many calling for its swift passage.
The Vice Chairman emphasized that the Committee is working diligently to ensure the bill is given the attention it deserves.
Parliament is expected to resume its sitting soon, and the bill, having been listed on the agenda, will be expected to be taken.
