The Communist Party of China (CPC) and Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) reaffirmed their commitment to deepening political and developmental cooperation during a high-level meeting in Beijing on May 14.
The NDC delegation, led by Party Chairman Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, was received by Mr. Liu Jianchao, Minister of the CPC’s International Department.
Their meeting not only highlighted the enduring bond between the two nations but also laid out a roadmap for closer collaboration through party-to-party engagement and multilateral platforms.
Mr. Liu praised Ghana’s historic role in China-Africa relations, recalling that Ghana was among the first countries in sub-Saharan Africa to establish diplomatic ties with the People’s Republic of China.
He cited shared experiences in the fight for independence and economic development as the bedrock of the longstanding relationship.
“As we mark 65 years of diplomatic ties, our friendship stands as a model of mutual respect and solidarity,” he stated.
He stressed the importance of aligning national development strategies, particularly through initiatives like the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and broader South-South cooperation.
He further emphasized deepening political exchanges, including capacity building, governance reform, anti-corruption initiatives, and youth development—a sentiment echoed by the Ghanaian side.
In his remarks, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia reaffirmed Ghana’s unwavering support for the One-China policy, stressing that the position transcends changes in government and reflects a consistent national approach to foreign policy.
He commended China’s contributions to Ghana’s development, especially in infrastructure and cadre training, describing these as critical to the country’s long-term progress.
“The 65th anniversary offers an opportunity not only to reflect on our shared history but also to explore new areas of cooperation,” he noted.
He expressed a strong interest in drawing lessons from China’s employment and youth development policies, key focus areas for the NDC ahead of Ghana’s next election cycle.
Both parties also reaffirmed their shared commitment to multilateralism, peaceful development, and the principles of non-interference and mutual benefit.
Mr. Asiedu expressed appreciation for China’s approach to global engagement, noting that Ghana values partnerships that promote inclusive growth and equitable cooperation.
The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to elevate CPC-NDC relations and use party diplomacy as a bridge for broader national collaboration, reinforcing both countries’ dedication to sustainable development and global solidarity.
