Ga Mantse Expresses Gratitude for Successful Ban on Drumming Ahead of Homowo Festival

His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, Ga Mantse and President of the Ga Traditional Council, has issued a heartfelt message of appreciation to the residents of the Ga State for their cooperation during the recently concluded one-month ban on drumming and noise-making—a culturally significant tradition observed in the lead-up to the Homowo Festival.

In his official statement, the King acknowledged the widespread respect and adherence to the ban, which is rooted in centuries-old customs and holds great spiritual importance for the Ga people.

He commended the collective spirit of mutual respect and cultural sensitivity exhibited by residents, religious bodies, and the broader community, which contributed to a peaceful and successful observance.

King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II emphasized that this tradition is legally supported by Ghana’s constitutional provisions—specifically Articles 11(3) and 26(1) of the 1992 Constitution—which recognize and protect customary laws and the rights of communities to preserve their cultural heritage.

He also referenced municipal regulations by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), which align with the ban by prohibiting excessive noise and public nuisance.

The Ga Traditional Council extended special gratitude to churches, mosques, traditional leaders, and community members who upheld the sanctity of the observance.

The Council also praised the dedication of local chiefs, Asafoatsemei (war leaders), Wubmei (women leaders), royal courtiers, and other cultural functionaries who ensured order and reverence throughout the period.

The official lifting of the ban is scheduled for Wednesday, 12th June 2025, with ceremonial activities taking place at Gbese-Blohum and Abola in Ga Mashie.

All members of the public are warmly invited to attend and experience the vibrant expression of Ga tradition.
