19 Arrested in Major Police Sweep Targeting Drug Trafficking and Robbery at Dominase Onion Market

A major police operation has led to the arrest of 19 suspects in connection with a network of drug trafficking and robbery activities at the Dominase Onion Market and its surrounding areas in the Central Region.

The Ghana Police Service, through the Central East Regional Police Command, confirmed the arrests in a statement released on June 12, 2025.

The operation was part of a coordinated effort to dismantle rising criminal networks operating within the Kasoa Dominase enclave—an area that has recently seen an increase in illegal drug trade and theft-related incidents.

According to the Regional Public Affairs Unit, the suspects were picked up during a targeted special operation aimed at restoring safety to the busy market and its environs.

Among those arrested were individuals believed to be involved in the distribution of illicit substances and orchestrating petty robberies that had instilled fear among traders and residents.

The named suspects include Abubakari Ibrahim, Mohammed Awal, Shafiu Salisu, Hamza Amadu, Ali Adamu, Balhani Fuseini, Jamal Haruna, Zakari Abdulai, Abdul Aziz, Bera Kalidu, Moro Baki, Anthony Lucky, Razak Yussif, Sumani Issah, Sulley Mohammed, Abdul Salifu, Eliasu Bukari, Kamelo Muuk, and Osumanu Amadu.

During the operation, police recovered quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, as well as various controlled pharmaceutical drugs including Tramadol and a popular but dangerous street drug known locally as “Red”.

These substances are often linked to youth drug abuse and crime in the region.

All 19 suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with investigations. Authorities have indicated that the individuals will be processed and arraigned before court once preliminary inquiries are concluded.

Head of Public Affairs for the Central East Region, DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo, commended the officers who led the successful operation.

He also appealed to the general public to assist law enforcement by sharing credible information that could help in curbing drug abuse, trafficking, and robbery across the region.

“The Central East Regional Police Command entreats the public to provide relevant information to assist in its continued efforts to clamp down on the menace,” the police statement indicated.

This latest crackdown forms part of a broader regional security strategy aimed at reducing crime, protecting livelihoods in commercial hubs, and ensuring a safe environment for economic activity.

Investigations are ongoing.
