The University of Ghana is grappling with a resurgence of COVID-19 cases, prompting urgent action from the institution’s Health Services Directorate.
In an official statement issued on June 23, 2025, the Directorate confirmed a spike in both suspected and confirmed cases within the university community and its surrounding areas.
The development has triggered heightened health surveillance measures on campus, as well as a renewed call for strict adherence to COVID-19 safety protocols.
“Several cases have been identified, and there is concern over the potential for wider spread if immediate precautions are not taken,” the statement warned.
To contain the situation, the Health Services Directorate has reactivated its COVID-19 Response Protocols, which include screening and triage at university health facilities, contact tracing, and isolation measures where necessary.
The Directorate has also pledged to issue regular updates as the situation evolves.
Preventive Measures Reinforced
Students, staff, and visitors to the university have been urged to adopt the following preventive measures with immediate effect:

Practice frequent hand hygiene, either with soap and water or alcohol-based sanitizers

Maintain at least one metre of physical distance from others

Avoid large gatherings, unless absolutely necessary

Stay home and seek medical care if flu-like symptoms occur

The Health Directorate emphasized the importance of a collective response to prevent further spread of the virus.
“We must work together to protect ourselves and our community,” the statement read.
