Bongo District Hospital is not fit to be called a hospital” – DCE cries out for help

The District Chief Executive for Bongo District of the Upper East Region, Honourable Joseph Abaah Akansake has  decried the poor state of the district hospital therefore appealing for stocking with state-of-the-art equipment enable residents to be served better.

According to the Joseph Abaah Akansake,there’s urgent need for proper health facilities and equipments in order to serve the health needs of residents.

The DCE remarked that, even a health centre far exceed the status of the Bongo District Hospital, which has only one doctor against over 120 patient population.

Speaking to journalists in Parliament after appearing before the Select Committee on Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. Akansake indicated that the hospital lacks befitting wards due to the limited facilities.

He also lamented that the location of the maternity ward which is meters away from the theatre posing grave challenges for pregnant women in labor.

Again, he said the hospital lacks even mortuary, hence dead bodies are transported to neighboring towns for autopsy and preservation.

The Bongo DCE called for support and more resources to address this problem, in order to provide quality healthcare and dignity for patients who visit the health facility.

He highlighted water supply thereby resorting to drilling boreholes to ameliorate the challenges.
