The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bulsa North, Hon. Solomon Akogti, has attributed the high rate of pupil failures in the municipality to teacher truancy.
Speaking in an interview with the media, Akogti expressed concern over the attitude of teachers towards their work, stating that it was a major challenge to improving academic performance.
According to the MCE, his interactions with teachers in the municipality revealed a lack of commitment to their duties, with what he described as “flimsy” excuses for their absenteeism.
Akogti, however, assured the public of his resolve to closely work with school heads and teachers’ unions to address the issue.
While acknowledging that the poor state of roads in the area, which often results in damaged motorbikes, contributes to teachers’ absenteeism, Akogti emphasized that consistent monitoring would be implemented to curb the trend.
He expressed optimism that with collective effort, the municipality can reverse the current academic trends and improve pupil performance.
The MCE made these remarks during an appearance before the Local Government and Rural Development Committee of Parliament, where he appealed for support to address some of the challenges facing the municipality.
