African Leaders Call for Smarter Partnerships and Innovative Finance to Close $108bn Infrastructure Gap at T20 G20 Summit Event”

At a T20 side event of the G20 Summit in South Africa, held at the Capital Empire Hotel on November 29, 2025, the African Think Tank for Infrastructure Development convened key leaders under the theme “Enhancing Africa’s Infrastructure Gap: Transformation Through Investment and Partnership.”

Prof. Joshua Alabi, Board Chairman of GCB Bank PLC, delivered a keynote address titled “Building Sustainable Collaboration: De-risking and Blending for Bankability.”

He underscored the urgency of tackling Africa’s annual infrastructure deficit of $108 billion and called for smarter partnerships, stronger domestic institutional capacity, and innovative financing models to accelerate development.

Prof. Alabi cited Ghana’s Government Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) as a successful example of how de-risking strategies and blended finance can unlock substantial investment and support sustainable transformation across the continent.
