Chairman for parliament committee on Lands and Natural Resources Alhaji Collins Dauda has stressed  that the committee will review the lithium agreement, considering stakeholder input and ensuring Ghana benefits maximally from its lithium resources.

The agreement proposes a 10% royalty rate, with Ghana holding a 13% free carried interest and additional equity participation through the Minerals Income and Investment Fund (MIIF).

However, former Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor have questioned the terms, arguing they favor Barari DV Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of Atlantic Lithium Limited which the NDC while in opposition had opposed to it when the agreement was brought before parliament.

The Chairperson addressing the press on Tuesday November 25,the committee he said has invited stakeholders to share their views on the agreement, with a deadline for submissions set for November 27, 2025.

Alhaji Collins Dauda, emphasized that the law needs to be amended to increase the royalty rate, with 10% being the preferred option.

“The law has to be amended to up the rate from five percent to whatever percentage the minister so wishes,” he said.

He went on saying that the committee has duly advertised the agreement in newspapers, seeking public opinion from interested persons, CSOs, NGOs, and experts, adding that they are not in a hurry.

“We are not in a hurry to pass agreement without taking the views of the public on board,” he assured.
