Effutu MP slams government over delay in Road Fund Board formation, questions minister’s efficiency

The Member of Parliament for Effutu, Honourable Alexander Osahene Afenyo-Markin, has expressed disappointment and frustration with the government’s handling of the road fund board, questioning the efficiency of the Minister responsible.

Speaking in Parliament, Hon. Afenyo-Markin lamented the government’s failure to set up the road fund board, more than ten months after taking office.

He expressed concern that the delay is causing suffering to road contractors and their workers, who are unable to receive payment for work done.

“Contractors are suffering, is it a sin to invest in the private sector?” Hon. Afenyo-Markin asked, emphasizing that businesses are struggling to pay their workers and meet their financial obligations due to the government’s inaction.

The MP also questioned the Minister’s ability to manage the road fund, citing the lack of progress made in setting up the board. “You can’t even say what you’ve been doing with the funds,” he said, referring to the 5.378 million released to the Minister.

Hon. Afenyo-Markin’s comments highlight the growing frustration among lawmakers and stakeholders with the government’s handling of the economy and infrastructure development.

“The road fund board is seen as a critical institution for improving Ghana’s road network, and its absence is felt across the country,”the Minister said.

The government is expected to respond to the MP’s criticisms with the issue  likely to dominate parliamentary debates in the coming weeks.
