IGP Special Operations Team Arrests Multiple Suspects in Anti-Narcotics Sweep Across Tamale

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team on Monday commenced full-scale, intelligence-led patrols at identified crime-prone locations across the Tamale Metropolis, leading to the arrest of several suspects and the seizure of substances suspected to be illicit drugs.

During an operation at the Water Works area, police arrested Alhassan Abdul Shakun for possession of a substance identified as Royal 225, while Hawa Yakubu was apprehended for possession of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

In a separate operation at the Aboabo Market, seven individuals—Ikram Abdul Razak, Farouk Nahim, Issah Mohammed, Abdulai Fuseini, Umaru Zulkarina, Mohammed Marawu, and Shaibu Ibrahim—were arrested for possession of various quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

Further arrests were made within the Kamina Barracks enclave, where Simi Michael, Abdul Lasa, Iddi Suraya, Franklina Owusu, Albert Anafo, Sadiq Alhassan, and Ziblina Muntala were apprehended for possession of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, as well as quantities of Koffex cough syrup, a regulated pharmaceutical product.

In the same area, three additional individuals who identified themselves as military personnel were arrested for possession and use of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

Following formal verification, which confirmed their military status, arrangements were made for them to be handed over to the Regional Military Police Command for further action, in accordance with Police Service Instructions (SI) 167, which governs the handling of service personnel involved in criminal matters.

All other suspects are currently being held at the Sakasaka Police Station to assist with ongoing investigations. Police say all exhibits retrieved during the operation have been secured for forensic analysis and evidential purposes.
