The Ghana Police Service has arrested seven suspects in connection with a highway robbery that occurred along the Tamale–Buipe Highway in the Savannah Region on July 21, 2025.

According to preliminary police investigations, the suspects, who were armed, attacked commuters along the highway and robbed them of mobile phones, cash, wristwatches, reading glasses, a laptop, and other personal belongings.

An intelligence-led operation led to the arrest of Rashida Yusif, who was found in possession of an iPhone 7 Plusbelonging to one of the victims.

Further investigations traced the phone to a mobile phone shop at Dagomba Line in Salaga, resulting in the arrest of Aaron Abana Baswiefanga and subsequently his uncle, Wilson Avasong, in Tamale.
Police later arrested additional suspects, including Muntaru Iddrisu and Aminu Zebrilla, an ex-convict, for their involvement in the sale of the stolen phone.

A search conducted in Aminu Zebrilla’s room uncovered a cache of items, including a locally manufactured short gun, a locally manufactured pistol, four live BB cartridges, a locally manufactured sword bearing the inscription “Birdman”, one live 5.56×44 CZ round, two live revolver ammunition, a face mask, a jack knife, a cutter, a catapult, a talisman, and a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
