Police in the Greater Accra Region have launched a manhunt for a block factory worker, identified as Eric Kartel, who is alleged to have fatally stabbed a 26-year-old man, Wisdom Tetteh Assem, at Adorkorpe near Ada Kasseh.
The incident occurred during a Valentine’s Day event at a local drinking spot in the community and is reported to have stemmed from a confrontation between the suspect and the deceased.
Dispute Over Alleged Misconduct
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect confronted Mr. Assem, accusing him of urinating on the premises where the event was being held. Witnesses say tensions escalated after the confrontation, during which Kartel allegedly seized the deceased’s mobile phone.
What began as a verbal disagreement reportedly developed into a physical altercation. Police say the suspect later left the scene but returned shortly afterward armed with a pair of scissors.
He is alleged to have stabbed Mr. Assem during the renewed confrontation. The victim sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after the attack.
Arrest and Ongoing Investigation
The Ada Divisional Police Command has since retrieved the suspected murder weapon and commenced investigations into the incident.
A friend of the suspect has been arrested to assist with investigations, while a search is underway to locate and apprehend Kartel, who fled the area after the incident.
Police are appealing to the public for credible information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect. Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement officers as investigations continue.
