Pru East Gets Boost in Youth Empowerment as MP Commissions Modern Skills Training Centre

Youth in the Pru East Constituency of the Bono East Region are expressing renewed hope following the commissioning of a modern vocational training facility aimed at tackling unemployment and promoting self-reliance.

The newly unveiled Lord Boam Skills Development and Training Centre marks a significant milestone in efforts to expand access to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the area.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Member of Parliament for Pru East, Hon. Emmanuel Kwaku Boam, is designed to equip young people with practical, job-ready skills.

Funded through a partnership between the MP and development collaborators, the centre offers hands-on training in key areas such as catering, fashion design, electronics, and electrical installation.

Trainees are expected to receive certification recognized by the Ghana Education Service (GES), ensuring their skills meet national standards and are competitive in the job market.

At the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Boam reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive education, stressing that access to skills training should not be limited by age or financial background.

He noted that the facility is particularly targeted at the less privileged, providing them with opportunities to build sustainable livelihoods.

“This centre is about giving our youth a chance to learn, to grow, and to become economically independent,” he said.

The MP’s initiative forms part of his broader efforts to improve education in the constituency.

In recent years, he has supported schools with digital resources, including the donation of computers to Yeji Senior High School, and introduced academic programs such as inter-schools quiz competitions to promote learning.

Delivering remarks on behalf of the regional administration, Bono East Regional Minister Hon. Francis Owusu Antwi commended both the MP and the government’s broader commitment to strengthening TVET education across the country.

He highlighted ongoing investments in state-of-the-art training facilities and referenced the establishment of a digital engineering university in the region as part of efforts to modernize technical education.

He further urged residents to take ownership of the new centre and ensure its proper maintenance to sustain its long-term impact.

Also speaking at the event, the Bono East Regional Director of TVET, Mr. Appiah Kubi, called for greater respect and recognition for skilled artisans, emphasizing the critical role vocational training plays in national development. He noted that the centre aligns with national strategies to reduce youth unemployment and stimulate economic growth.
