Sosu’s Salafest Health Drive Expands Access to Care for the Muslim Community in Madina

The Health Project under the office of Dr. Francis-Xavier Sosu carried out a free medical screening exercise on Saturday, March 21, as part of activities marking the annual Salafest celebration organized by the MP’s Islam Project in the Madina Constituency.

The initiative targeted members of the Muslim community, offering basic health checks alongside education on preventive care.

It forms part of a broader outreach programme aimed at improving access to healthcare services within the municipality.

Speaking after the exercise, the Deputy CEO of the Health Project, Lovelace Bobobee Kwadzo Edzor, noted that preliminary findings from the screening revealed a concerning prevalence of high blood pressure and elevated blood sugar levels among participants.

He emphasized the importance of early detection and lifestyle changes, urging residents to prioritize regular medical check-ups, counseling, and, where necessary, further diagnostic testing or surgical interventions.

“We are encouraging the community to adopt healthier lifestyles, this includes proper dieting, regular exercise, and avoiding harmful habits,” he explained.

“By doing so, they can better manage or prevent conditions such as hypertension and diabetes.”

Edzor also advised individuals, particularly older adults, to take proactive steps in managing their health by joining support or wellness groups and engaging in consistent physical activity.

The Health Project, he added, is adopting a targeted, issue-based approach to healthcare delivery in the constituency.

Following previous interventions such as eye surgeries, the next phase will focus on Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) care.

Subsequent programmes are expected to cover dental services and fibroid surgeries.

“The initiative reflects a growing effort by the Madina MP’s office to address pressing health concerns through community-centered interventions, especially during major public gatherings like Salafest, where large segments of the population can be reached effectively”.
