Suspect Allegedly Lured Victim With Nursing Job, Forced Her Into Prostitution At Galamsey Site
The suspect is alleged to have trafficked a 24-year-old Nigerian woman after luring her to Ghana with the promise of a nursing job.
However, upon her arrival in Ghana, the suspect allegedly transported her to Clooth, where she was shown a metal container intended to serve as her accommodation while she engaged in commercial sex work.
The victim, who managed to escape and report the incident, further alleged that more than 30 other girls remain in the community – where illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) is ongoing – to engage in prostitution.
Police sources say the suspect is in custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are underway to rescue the other alleged victims sand to identify and apprehend his alleged accomplices.
The arrest highlights the growing link between human trafficking, sexual exploitation and illegal mining activities in parts of the country.
