Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has declared her intention to contest for the Dome-Kwabenya parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2028 general elections on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a statement announcing her decision, the former MP said her journey in public service has over the years been shaped by a deep sense of commitment to the people, the values of the NPP, and the sacred responsibility that comes with representing the interests of the Ghanaian people.
According to her, her relationship with the people of Dome-Kwabenya transcends politics, describing it as a relationship rooted in years of shared experiences, dedicated service, sacrifice, and a common aspiration to build a constituency that works for all.
“After considerable reflection, extensive consultation and broad-based engagement with party leadership and executives and guided by my own conviction and unwavering loyalty to the principles and values of our political tradition, I formally announce my intention to once again present myself for consideration as the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency when the party announces the timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary primaries,” she declared.
Ms Safo disclosed that she had earlier indicated her intention to pursue opportunities beyond the constituency, but upon deeper reflection, she has come to appreciate that there is no greater honour or responsibility than serving and representing the interests and aspirations of over two hundred thousand constituents of Dome-Kwabenya in Parliament.
“My decision to return to contest is informed by my enduring commitment to the people of Dome-Kwabenya and my conviction that there remains much to contribute to the development of our constituency and the advancement of our shared aspirations,” she said.
She noted that Dome-Kwabenya remains one of the fastest-growing constituencies in Ghana, with significant opportunities and equally enormous developmental challenges. However, she said over the last twelve years of her service as MP, working together with residents, party faithful, community and religious leaders and stakeholders, meaningful progress was made in addressing many of these challenges.
Recounting her electoral record, the former MP said:
“To my dear Dome-Kwabenya patriots, in 2012, when I was honoured to be elected as the parliamentary candidate, the votes we inherited was in the region of 35,000. By dint of our collective efforts, hard work and unity of purpose, we gave the NPP and President Nana Addo 63,373 votes in the 2012 election. In 2016, we increased our vote tally marginally to 65,488 and yet again in the 2020 election, we increased our votes to 75,041.”
She said these achievements are not hers alone but reflect the dedication, sacrifice and commitment of every party member, supporter and constituent who believed in their shared vision for Dome-Kwabenya.
“I firmly believe that the strength of our party lies in our unity, our shared values, and our collective willingness to work together in pursuit of our common purpose,” she added.
Ms Safo said her aspiration is to continue serving alongside constituents to build a constituency where young people can realise their potential, families can thrive, and the concerns of ordinary residents receive due attention.
She therefore invited party members, stakeholders and constituents to engage with her in a spirit of openness, candour and mutual respect as they reflect on the future of Dome-Kwabenya and the leadership required to drive its next phase of growth.
“Dome-Kwabenya is home. It has always been home. My commitment to its people remains unwavering, and my resolve to serve remains steadfast,” she concluded.
