Edmund Agboh Confirmed as Ga East MCE, Vows Bold Reforms and Inclusive Development

Mr. Edmund Agboh has been officially confirmed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Ga East Municipal Assembly, pledging to lead a transparent, inclusive, and development-oriented administration that will address the pressing needs of the municipality.

In a well-attended confirmation ceremony, Mr. Agboh expressed deep appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for the trust reposed in him.

He also acknowledged the support of key figures in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), including the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim; the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mrs. Linda Ocloo; and the Dome-Kwabenya MP, Mr. Faustina Elikplim Akurugu.

Aligning himself with the NDC’s “RESET” agenda, Mr. Agboh reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening local governance through enhanced citizen participation, accountability, and innovation.

He identified inadequate funding, particularly delays in the District Assemblies Common Fund and limited Internally Generated Funds (IGF), as major challenges hampering development in the municipality.

“In collaboration with the Assembly’s staff, we will establish a transparent and accountable administration, committed to mobilising resources to advance the municipality’s development,” Mr. Agboh stated.

He called on traditional leaders, religious institutions, civil society groups, and residents to support the administration’s revenue mobilisation drive.

He promised the introduction of user-friendly systems to make levy payments less burdensome and more efficient.

Touching on infrastructure, the new MCE outlined key projects he intends to pursue, including the rehabilitation of major roads such as the Narhman-Musuku stretch and the flood-prone Ahmadiyya–Ashongman corridor.

He also pledged to utilise the assembly’s Direct Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment to upgrade local roads, with plans underway to appoint a director and trained operators for effective deployment.

Mr. Agboh further disclosed plans to work closely with the Ministries of Works and Housing, Roads and Highways, and Local Government to ensure the completion of ongoing road projects within the municipality, including the ECOWAS Highway and other key arterial routes.

On urban management, he highlighted the urgent need to upgrade lorry stations and markets, citing the lack of commensurate development despite continuous toll collection from traders and transport operators.

He assured market users of fair treatment in the allocation of spaces during future redevelopments.

He also pledged to tackle longstanding community challenges such as poor sanitation, erratic water supply, inadequate health infrastructure, and the encroachment on public lands.

“Development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of division,” Mr. Agboh remarked, extending an invitation to all stakeholders, regardless of political or religious affiliation, to partner in building a prosperous municipality.

Security and sanitation will feature prominently in his administration’s priorities.

He promised to work closely with the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) to maintain peace, and committed to strict enforcement of the National Sanitation Day policy to improve environmental cleanliness.

Expressing gratitude to traditional leaders, political figures, and religious leaders who graced the ceremony, Mr. Agboh made special mention of the Gbese Mantse, the Awadada of the Anlo State, and various dignitaries including former Commissioner of Customs, Major General Carl Mordey, and Special Envoy to the Alliance of Sahel States, Lt. Col. Larry Gbevlo Lartey.

He also extended heartfelt thanks to his wife, Christina Selormey Agboh, for her unwavering support.

“I pledge to serve with integrity, dedication, and humility,” he concluded. “With your support, Ga East will rise to greater heights.”

Mr. Agboh’s confirmation and address signal a new chapter for Ga East Municipality, with ambitious reforms expected to unfold in the months ahead.
