Bawumia Pledges “One Constituency, Ten Appointments” Policy to Broaden Political Inclusion

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has unveiled a bold new proposal aimed at deepening political inclusion and grassroots representation in governance.

Speaking at a recent engagement, during the NPP flagbearership race campaign, Dr. Bawumia announced his intention to implement a policy he termed “One Constituency, Ten Appointments” if elected President come 2028.

The initiative, according to Dr. Bawumia, will ensure that each constituency across the country has the opportunity to directly recommend individuals for key appointments in government.

He revealed that this approach will empower local communities to have a stronger voice in national leadership and decision-making.

“I will introduce a new arrangement — One constituency, ten appointments.

This will ensure that regions with more constituencies will get more appointments.

The names will be generated by the constituencies themselves, since they know the people well,” he stated.

The proposal is expected to create a more equitable system for political appointments by reflecting the diverse demographic and regional makeup of the country.

By tying appointments to constituencies rather than a centralized process, Dr. Bawumia aims to decentralize governance and foster a sense of ownership and participation at the grassroots level.
