Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom Constituency, Honourable Emmanuel Tobin strongly stands by the public support given by a group of 63 MPs to Dr. Mahamud Bawumia’s candidature in the party’s upcoming primaries.
The NPP’s presidential primaries is being contested by five stalwarts but it appears the most of Members of Parliament of Minority caucus have shown faith in the former presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections the reason for the supports.
Two other Members of Parliament who were said to be part, for strang reasons decided to be anonymous until such time they deem fit.
Critics say, declaring support for one will disadvantage the remaining four and has the potentials of deepening cracks thereby creating disaffection.
But, the Anyaa-Sowutuom MP believes it will be healthy instead in order to marshall forces for possible victory for DMB(Dr. Mahamud Bawumia).
Emmanuel Tobin, who is part of the 63, says the MPs voluntarily did what they think was right, without any coercion or influence, but a candid endorsement of who they believe is the right person to lead the NPP party.
According to the lawmaker, the MPs was firm in their conviction that their action was appropriate, hence naysayers should shut up.
Hon. Emmanuel Tobin noted that NPP’s humiliating defeat in the 2024 general elections was no fault of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, so people must not attribute that ordeal to the former Vice President.
He hailed Dr. Bawumia as a reservoir of transformative ideas and a man of substance, hence he must be given the second chance to stand for 2028 election on the ticket of the NPP.
