Hon. Mavis Kuukua Bissue, Member of Parliament for Ahanta West, is advocating for stricter laws to safeguard Ghana’s forest reserves from destruction.
The MP’s call comes amidst alarming rates of deforestation, with 44 out of 288 reserves already destroyed.
Speaking on the need for urgent action in a statement on the floor of Parliament,Hon. Bissue emphasized the importance of protecting these ecosystems, citing the Cape Three Point Forest Reserve as a prime example of an area under threat.
She appealed for its transformation into a tourism eco-park, highlighting the potential for ecotourism to drive economic growth and conservation.
The MP’s proposal includes community participation, public-private partnerships, and conservation education to ensure the sustainable management of Ghana’s forest reserves.
