The Gomoa Dawurampong Divisional Police Command has launched a manhunt for nine suspects in connection with an alleged assassination attempt on the Gyasehene of Gomoa Wassa, Nana Kwesi Essel Okyea-hene, in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region.
Speaking to Nyansapo Media, principal elders of Gomoa Wassa disclosed that the assailants were armed and suggested that the attempted attack is linked to an ongoing chieftaincy dispute in the community.
According to the elders, Nana Kwesi Essel Okyea-hene narrowly escaped death due to the timely intervention of four police officers who were present in the town at the time of the incident.
One of the elders further revealed that preliminary information points to the alleged involvement of the community’s Nkosuohene, Tei, who was recently destooled, as the mastermind behind the attack. Police investigations are, however, ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Meanwhile, the Obaatan of Gomoa Wassa, Nana Adwoa Nkum, has appealed to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christiaan Tetteh Yohuno, to ensure the swift arrest of the perpetrators and take decisive steps to restore peace and calm to the community.
The police have assured residents that efforts are underway to apprehend the suspects and maintain law and order in the area.
