ACCRA POLICE BUST ROBBERY GANG: ALL FIVE CONVICTED AND JAILED

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command is pleased to announce a significant breakthrough in their ongoing fight against crime, having successfully apprehended, prosecuted, and convicted a notorious robbery gang responsible for two brazen incidents in the Greater Accra Region.

The gang was implicated in a daring nighttime assault at the Jo’s Bakery in Dome and another violent robbery at ACP Junction.

In the early hours of May 11, 2025, at approximately 1:25 a.m., the calm of the night was shattered when two armed assailants, identified as Isaac Agbezudor, alias “Money Man,” a 20-year-old mechanic, and Justice Alwasi Sarfo Oppong, known as “Gariba Manta” or “Demon,” a 19-year-old okada rider, targeted the staff at the Jos Bakery Head Office in Dome, a bustling suburb of Accra.

The suspects, riding a motorbike without proper registration, unleashed terror as they discharged a locally made pistol into the air, sending shockwaves of fear through the victims.

Their haul included a Techno Pop 8 smartphone valued at GHC1;500 and a handbag filled with personal items.

In the wake of this incident, the Regional Police Command launched a comprehensive investigation.

Their determination bore fruit on May 14, 2025, when Isaac Agbezudor was nabbed during a meticulous covert operation.

Following intense questioning, his confession led to the recovery of crucial evidence, including the motorbike used for the crime and clothing worn during the robbery, which ultimately revealed the identity of his accomplice.

On May 22, 2025, with actionable intelligence in hand, law enforcement officials tracked down Gariba Manta at a mining site situated between Osino and Saaman.

This arrest proved pivotal, as he subsequently directed police to a hidden stash in Sonitra, Amasaman, where the weapon and live ammunition employed in the robbery were located.

Both suspects underwent legal proceedings, and Isaac Agbezudor was convicted on his guilty plea, receiving a 10-year prison sentence for two counts to run concurrently.

Gariba Manta, found guilty as well, was handed a harsher sentence of 15 years in prison.

Further investigations linked Gariba Manta to an unrelated but equally audacious robbery that took place on February 5, 2025, at ACP Junction, near Kwabenya.

Alongside three accomplices—Bright, Alikor, alias “Zaamani,” a 21-year-old driver’s mate, Emmanuel Nii Odartey Lamptey, also known as “Chameleon,” a 23-year-old, and Prince Owusu, alias “Check Boy,” a 19-year-old—they launched a merciless attack on a female victim, robbing her of an iPhone 11 Pro Max, a Samsung tablet, and a staggering GH$6,000 in cash, all while brandishing a knife and scissors.

The victim suffered knife wounds in the tumultuous altercation.

The dedicated efforts of the police resulted in the swift capture of all three accomplices through targeted covert operations.

Following a trial at the Kwabenya Circuit Court, Bright Alikor, Emmanuel Nii Odartey Lamptey, and Prince Owusu were each sentenced to 15 years in prison for their roles in this heinous crime.

In a related matter, police are actively pursuing an additional suspect believed to be in Koforidua, who allegedly assisted in the sale of stolen goods.

The Accra Regional Police Command extends its commendations to the intelligence and operations teams for their unwavering commitment and prompt actions in ensuring the apprehension and conviction of all five suspects.

The police force remains steadfast in its appeal to the public, urging individuals to provide reliable information to bolster ongoing crime-fighting efforts.

The Command assures the community, especially informants, of their utmost safety and confidentiality in all interactions. Together, we can strive toward creating safer and more secure neighborhoods for all.
