President John Dramani Mahama has commended the Ghana Police Service for their recent breakthroughs in the fight against crime, describing their efforts as a “clear demonstration of professionalism, vigilance, and dedication to public safety.”
Speaking during the inauguration of the newly constituted Police Council at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, President Mahama highlighted several high-profile successes, including cross-border cooperation with Nigeria to rescue kidnapped Ghanaian nationals and the swift apprehension of suspects involved in violent crimes across multiple regions.
“Let me commend the Police Management team for the successes you have chalked recently in the fight against armed robbery, and your collaboration with your Nigerian counterparts in apprehending the kidnappers in Nigeria and bringing the Ghanaian victims back home,” he said.
He further praised the police for their investigative work that led to the arrest of suspects involved in the murder of mobile money merchants in Kumasi, Koforidua, and Aflao, as well as the perpetrators of the Nsawam sandpit killings, noting that these operations reflect a maturing and increasingly effective security apparatus.
President Mahama’s comments come amid growing public scrutiny of security institutions and their capacity to respond to complex crime patterns, including digital fraud, armed robbery, and cross-border kidnappings.
His praise was tempered with a call for continued innovation and alertness.
“Let this not be a moment of complacency. Crime is evolving, and we must evolve with it.
I urge the Police Management team to explore modern, technology-driven strategies in law enforcement.
You will have my full backing in doing so,” he stated.
