Roads Minister Responds to Suaman MP’s Appeal, Updates Parliament on Juaboso-Dadieso and Akontombra Road Projects

In response to rising concerns over deteriorating road infrastructure in the Suaman Dadieso Constituency, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr. Governs Kwame Agbodza, has provided a detailed update on ongoing road rehabilitation efforts during a Parliamentary session held on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

The Minister’s response came after a question was posed by Mr. Fredrick Addy, Member of Parliament for Suaman Dadieso, who expressed frustration over the continued neglect of roads in the constituency—an issue affecting transportation, trade, and access to essential services in the Western North Region.

Addressing the House, Mr. Agbodza acknowledged the concerns and assured that tangible work is ongoing.

He gave an update on the Juaboso to Dadieso road, a major artery within the constituency stretching 51 kilometers.

This route plays a crucial role in linking various communities and supporting economic activities, especially in agriculture.

According to the Minister, the road is being upgraded in phases:

21km from Juaboso to Amoagya and 15km from Kalo to Dadieso are surface dressed,

The remaining 16km stretch between Kalo and Amoagya remains gravel.

He disclosed that the project is being undertaken under a contract titled “Rehabilitation of Juaboso-Dadieso Road (km 0 to 39),” awarded with a start date of January 15, 2021.

Initially scheduled for completion by June 20, 2023, the contractor is still on-site, and the physical work done so far stands at 53%.

The Minister also touched on another critical road—the Akontombra to Dadieso stretch, which spans 22.3km and serves as a vital connector between the Akontombra and Suaman districts.

This road further links to the national highway N12 at Okaso, making it a strategic route in the region’s road network.

The current project on this road, titled “Construction of Akontombra to Dadieso km 46.3 and Awaso-Asowinso Junction,” is being funded by COCOBOD, the national cocoa regulatory authority.

The contract was awarded on November 17, 2021, with an expected completion date of November 2022. However, as of June 2025, only 20% of the work has been completed.

Both the Juaboso-Dadieso and Akontombra road projects are crucial to the Western North Region, which has long faced infrastructural challenges despite being a hub for cocoa production and timber transport.

Poor road conditions have historically hampered the movement of goods and people, contributing to high transportation costs and limiting economic opportunities for rural residents.

In recent years, MPs like Mr. Fredrick Addy have repeatedly called for equitable distribution of road infrastructure investment, arguing that communities in the Western North are being left behind compared to other regions.
