The Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has reiterated government’s commitment to placing young people at the centre of Ghana’s development agenda, describing them as partners and drivers of development.
He made the remarks when he joined young leaders, innovators and international partners at the TICAD Youth Drive 2026 held in Accra on Thursday, August 13.
The event, held under the theme “Youth Agenda 2063: From Vision to Action”, provided a platform to amplify youth voices and deepen conversations around entrepreneurship, innovation and international cooperation.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Opare Addo said Ghana remains committed to ensuring that no young person is left behind in the national development journey.
“Young people are not just beneficiaries of development; they are partners and drivers of it,” he stated.
“Ghana remains committed to ensuring that young people are not left behind but are actively carried along in our development journey. Government will continue to create opportunities, listen to young voices and provide the support needed for our youth to lead, innovate and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s future,” the Minister added.
The TICAD Youth Drive, a side event ahead of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), brought together youth advocates, startup founders, policy makers and development partners to explore ways of translating Africa’s long-term vision, Agenda 2063, into concrete actions led by young people.
Discussions at the celebration focused on unlocking youth potential through entrepreneurship, digital innovation, skills development and strengthened international partnerships.
Mr Opare Addo commended the organisers and participants for their commitment to youth empowerment and called for sustained collaboration between government, the private sector and international partners to create an enabling environment for young people to thrive.
