MP Felicia Adjei Appointed to Bui Power Authority Board Amid Push for Clean Energy Transition

The Government of Ghana has appointed Mrs. Felicia Adjei, Member of Parliament for Kintampo South, to the Board of Directors of the Bui Power Authority (BPA) — a key agency in the country’s energy development strategy.

The announcement was made during the official inauguration of the new board, held under the auspices of the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Mr. John Abdulai Jinapor, who charged the board with the responsibility of repositioning the Authority to align with Ghana’s ambitious green energy goals.

“Upon assumption of office, we conducted an initial review of Bui Power Authority and were not satisfied with the company’s pricing models and strategic focus.

The company has signed a number of solar contracts.

It’s now time to shift focus to battery-backed solar energy as we modernize and decarbonize our power sector,” Minister Jinapor noted.

A New Board with a Clear Mandate

The newly inaugurated board includes a blend of political representatives, technical experts, and governance professionals.

Their collective task will be to strengthen institutional governance, re-evaluate existing contracts, and lead the Authority’s transition toward clean and sustainable energy solutions.

Felicia Adjei’s Role and Significance

Her presence also reinforces the government’s commitment to gender inclusion and the empowerment of women in strategic leadership positions within the energy sector.

Driving Ghana’s Low-Carbon Energy Agenda

Bui Power Authority, originally established to oversee the Bui Dam and hydroelectric power generation, has in recent years expanded its portfolio to include renewable energy technologies such as solar power.

With global energy demands shifting and climate action becoming increasingly urgent, the Authority is now seen as a critical player in Ghana’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

The newly constituted board is expected to accelerate these reforms, improve operational efficiency, and ensure that renewable energy becomes a reliable and affordable component of Ghana’s energy mix.

“This board must ensure that BPA is not only technically sound but also forward-looking, competitive, and financially viable,” the energy minister emphasized.
