A directive has been issued by the Social Investment Fund (SIF) for the demolition and reconstruction of two major housing projects in the Sefwi Akontombra Constituency, following the discovery of poor workmanship by the contractor.
The projects, which included residential quarters for teachers and nurses, were constructed by JIMPIMIC Construction Company Ltd.
However, an inspection by SIF revealed that the buildings were not only substandard but also unfit for habitation.
As a result, the SIF has instructed the company to pull down the existing structures and rebuild them to meet the required standards.
JIMPIMIC Construction, owned by former Member of Parliament for Sefwi Akontombra, Alexander Djornoboa, was awarded the contract to build the facilities in select areas of the district.
But concerns about the quality of work were raised by the current MP, Pious Kwame Nkuah, prompting media attention and an official review.
According to the inspection report, both the workmanship and materials used were found to be of poor quality.
The buildings have since been abandoned due to safety concerns and lack of durability.
In response, the SIF has emphasized its commitment to ensuring value for money and delivering infrastructure that meets the needs of communities.
The Fund has made it clear that only structures built to acceptable standards will be accepted, and contractors who fall short will be held accountable.
The situation has sparked broader conversations around the oversight of public contracts and the need for stricter enforcement of building standards, particularly for essential service infrastructure in rural communities.
