ECG Seeks 225% Hike in Distribution Charges to Avoid Financial Collapse

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has formally requested approval from the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) for a significant 225% increase in its Distribution Service Charge.

According to ECG, the proposed tariff adjustment is critical to stabilizing its finances and maintaining consistent and reliable electricity supply across the country.

The company warns that without urgent intervention, its operations could face severe strain, potentially affecting power distribution nationwide.

The request is currently under review by PURC, which is expected to evaluate the proposal alongside public and stakeholder input before making a final decision.
