Ghana Gold Board Commits GH¢5 Million and Five Pickups to Boost National Anti-Galamsey Efforts

In a decisive move to support the fight against illegal mining (commonly referred to as “galamsey”) in Ghana, the Ghana Gold Board, under the leadership of CEO Sammy Gyamfi, has announced a substantial donation to the National Anti-Illegal Mining Secretariat.

As part of its commitment to sustainable and responsible mining practices, the Gold Board will be donating five brand-new Toyota Hilux pickup vehicles along with a cash contribution of GH¢5 million.

This support is aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of the Secretariat in its efforts to curb illegal mining activities across the country.

The donation underscores the Ghana Gold Board’s role not only as a regulator and facilitator of the gold trade but also as a key partner in ensuring environmental stewardship and enforcement of mining regulations.

CEO Sammy Gyamfi stated that the initiative reflects the Board’s dedication to protecting Ghana’s natural resources, ensuring compliance with mining laws, and supporting government institutions tasked with restoring order and sustainability in the sector.

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Secretariat, established to coordinate the national response to illegal mining, is expected to use the donated vehicles and funds to enhance mobility, field operations, and intelligence-led interventions in affected regions.
